Subsidiary: McKenzie Brown Engineering Ltd
Overview: Responsible for designing, analyzing, and overseeing the fabrication and erection of steel structures. The role requires expertise in structural engineering principles, materials, and construction processes to ensure that all structures are safe, compliant, and cost-effective.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design & Analysis
• Prepare structural design and analysis for steel structures including beams, columns, trusses, platforms, and frames.
• Use engineering software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, Tekla, AutoCAD, SAP2000) to model, analyze, and optimize structural designs.
• Ensure designs meet relevant building codes, safety standards, and client specifications.
Project Coordination
• Collaborate with drafters, detailers, and fabrication teams to prepare accurate shop drawings and fabrication plans.
• Support the Project Manager in developing project schedules and budgets.
• Attend client meetings to understand technical requirements and resolve design-related issues.
Quality & Compliance
• Review fabrication drawings to ensure they conform to design intent and structural integrity.
• Conduct structural inspections and provide technical support during fabrication and installation.
• Ensure all engineering documentation is complete, accurate, and maintained according to internal and external standards.
Reporting & Documentation
• Prepare engineering reports, calculation packages, and progress updates for management and clients.
• Report directly to the General Manager and provide technical input on strategic planning and operational improvement.
Continuous Improvement
• Keep up to date with advancements in structural engineering, materials science, and fabrication technologies.
• Recommend improvements in design processes and quality control procedures.
• Any other task assigned by line manager
Qualifications/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
• Licensed or registered with a recognized engineering council (e.g., GhIE, COREN, etc.).
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in steel structure design and fabrication.
• Proficiency in engineering software and CAD applications.
• Strong knowledge of steel codes (BS, AISC, Eurocode, etc.).
