ENVIRONMENTAL SUPERINTENDENT
Entity: Genser Energy Ghana Limited (GEGL)
Division / Department: Midstream (MID) / Environmental (ENV)
Location: Rotating between Takoradi & Prestea, Western Region, Ghana
Reports to: VP of Operations (Midstream)
Designation Level: Functional Head
OBJECTIVE: The Environmental Superintendent is responsible for implementing and monitoring environmental programs at the site level to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and company policies. This role supports ESG initiatives by coordinating field activities, maintaining regulatory records, and promoting environmentally responsible practices across operations. The Superintendent works closely with operations teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies to manage site-specific environmental issues and ensure compliance in daily operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regulatory Compliance & Monitoring:
• Ensure site-level compliance with applicable environmental regulations (e.g., air, water, waste, land).
• Coordinate environmental inspections and maintain records of compliance activities.
• Support the preparation and timely submission of required reports to regulatory authorities.
• Maintain environmental permits and ensure permit conditions are met.
Environmental Programs Implementation:
• Implement environmental management plans and procedures on-site.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential environmental risks.
• Recommend and oversee corrective actions for non-compliance or environmental hazards.
Waste and Resource Management:
• Support waste management practices, including proper storage, disposal, and recycling initiatives.
• Monitor use of natural resources and assist in energy and water conservation efforts.
• Track and report environmental KPIs such as emissions, spills, or waste generation.
Training & Awareness:
• Deliver or coordinate environmental training for site staff and contractors.
• Promote awareness of environmental responsibilities and company standards.
• Support toolbox talks and environmental induction sessions.
Reporting & Documentation:
• Maintain accurate records of environmental activities and incidents.
• Assist in the preparation of internal and external environmental reports.
• Support the Environmental Manager with data collection for performance reviews.
Stakeholder and Regulatory Engagement:
• Liaise with local environmental authorities during inspections or permit renewals.
• Support communication with community stakeholders on site-related environmental matters.
• Assist in coordinating responses to environmental complaints or incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering is mandatory.
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Management, is a plus.
• Multicultural experience is mandatory.
• ISO 14001 EMS knowledge and HAZWOPER, CEM certifications are a plus.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of 8+ years of experience in a similar role specifically in the Oil & Gas industry.
• Hands-on experience with site audits, regulatory reporting, and environmental inspections.
• Solid understanding of environmental regulations and compliance processes.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and coordination skills with operations and third parties.
• Comfortable working in field environments and managing environmental documentation.
