ENVIRONMENTAL ASSOCIATE
Entity: Genser Energy Ghana Limited (GEGL)
Division / Department: Midstream (MID) / Environmental (ENV)
Location: Rotating between Takoradi & Prestea, Western Region, Ghana
Report Directly to: Environmental Associate
Designation Level: Sectional Head
OBJECTIVE: The Environmental Associate is responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of environmental programs to ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and internal policies. The role contributes to ESG efforts by supporting site activities, maintaining documentation, and promoting environmentally responsible practices. The Environmental Associate works closely with operations teams and environmental leadership to address site-level environmental issues.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regulatory Compliance & Monitoring:
• Assist with ensuring compliance with local and national environmental regulations (air, water, waste, land use).
• Support the coordination of environmental inspections and audits.
• Help compile and maintain required documentation for regulatory reporting.
• Assist in tracking environmental permits and related conditions.
Environmental Programs Support:
• Contribute to the implementation of environmental management plans and best practices.
• Participate in routine site inspections to identify and report potential environmental risks.
• Support corrective actions under the guidance of senior staff.
Waste and Resource Management:
• Help monitor waste management practices including sorting, storage, and disposal.
• Assist in tracking resource usage (water, energy) and contribute to conservation efforts.
• Collect data for environmental KPIs such as waste generation, emissions, or spill incidents.
Training & Awareness:
• Support delivery of environmental training sessions or toolbox talks.
• Promote awareness of environmental practices through day-to-day engagement with site staff.
Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain organized records of environmental monitoring activities and findings.
• Assist in drafting environmental reports for internal use and regulatory purposes.
• Gather and prepare data for internal audits and reviews.
Stakeholder and Community Engagement:
• Support communication with regulatory agencies during visits or audits.
• Assist in responding to community or internal inquiries related to environmental practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering is mandatory.
• Multicultural experience is a plus.
• ISO 14001 EMS knowledge and HAZWOPER, CEM certifications are a plus.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of 4+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry.
• Basic understanding of environmental regulations and compliance processes.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and follow guidance from supervisors.
• Good communication skills for cross-functional coordination.
• Detail-oriented and proactive in identifying issues and supporting solutions.
