Job Summary:
We are seeking a results-driven Customs Clearance Supervisor to oversee the efficient and cost-effective clearance of goods from ports to our warehouse. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, coordination, and analytical skills, with a firm grasp of customs regulations, logistics, and container movement processes. This role is key in ensuring that all containers are cleared on time, within budget, and without loss, while maintaining solid relationships with agents, shipping lines, customs, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Cost Management:
• Monitor and control the cost expenditure for each container to ensure operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Time Control:
• Ensure all containers are cleared from the terminal and delivered to the warehouse within the stipulated time frame.
• Inventory Security:
• Ensure all goods are accounted for throughout the customs clearance and delivery process, minimizing the risk of loss or damage.
• Agent & Transporter Oversight:
• Supervise and manage clearance agents and transporters, adjusting clearance schedules in line with company priorities and timelines.
• Team Management & Output Oversight:
• Lead and develop the clearance team while monitoring key performance indicators and ensuring output aligns with operational goals.
• External Relations – Customs & Authorities:
• Establish and maintain effective communication and relationships with customs authorities and relevant government agencies to facilitate smooth operations.
• Shipping Line Coordination:
• Liaise with shipping companies to stay updated on vessel schedules, container statuses, and any changes affecting clearance.
• Internal Coordination:
• Foster good communication and workflow between the warehouse and other internal departments to support a seamless logistics process.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field
• Proven experience in customs clearance and logistics transportation
• Strong team management and leadership skills
• Advanced Excel skills, including proficiency in VLOOKUP, PivotTables, and data analysis
• Excellent interpersonal, social, and reporting skills
• Strong logical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities efficiently
Preferred Attributes:
• Prior experience liaising with Ghana Revenue Authority (Customs Division) or similar agencies
• Experience working with bonded warehouses and free zone procedures
• Familiarity with shipping documentation (BLs, invoices, packing lists, etc.)
